Director of Music Ministry - Mount Olive Lutheran Church
Mount Olive Lutheran Church, ELCA, in Rochester, Minn., invites applications for the full-time Director of Music. We seek a creative, energetic and pastoral musician to shepherd our vision for a vibrant, forward-looking music ministry. The congregation, formed in 1961, has a current membership of approximately 900. We worship 300 over 3 services (one on Saturday evening and two on Sunday morning).
The primary responsibilities include serving as the organist/pianist for all worship services,directing the choir, directing ensembles (bells and brass), working with musicians and soloists, participating with the pastors and staff in planning worship services. We value excellence in organ performance, the choral arts, bells, and hymnody. Our worship is dynamic where solid liturgy and music support the worship of the people. We worship in a variety of settings and musical styles from classical church music to the world music of South America and Africa.
A master's degree in sacred music is desired, along with a background in Lutheran worship. The applicant should relate well with people of all ages and musical abilities. In addition, the candidate should be able to engage the congregation to continue growing our strong music ministry.
The sanctuary's organ was originally built by Charles Hendrickson and was completed in 1986. In 2008, the organ was rebuilt and expanded to 22 ranks. We have a Young Chang Grand Piano in the sanctuary. We have 3 octaves of both Schulmerich handbells and hand chimes. The sanctuary has been recently refurbished with new materials to improve acoustics.
